Roamly

Engineering

Founding Engineer, Route Intelligence

Own the path a trip request takes through Roamly: understanding how someone travels, building a paced route with realistic drives and good stops, and the adapt-as-you-tweak loop that re-flows only what changed.

Location
Denver, CO or remote in the US
Type
Full time
Compensation
$175,000 to $210,000 plus 0.35% to 0.85% equity

Roamly turns a start, a destination or a loop, a number of days, and a travel style into a day-by-day route that actually flows. The planning pipeline is the product: everything between a traveler describing their trip and a route they can follow and trust.

You would be the fourth engineer. The work decides whether people trust Roamly with a week of their vacation. A plan with an eight-hour driving day hidden in the middle, or a night with nowhere to sleep, is worse than no plan at all, and holding that line is what this role is responsible for.

What you would own

  • Make routes hold up against real trips: realistic drive times over real roads, overnight stops that exist, and pacing that fits the travel style.
  • Own the adjust loop, so a tweak to one day re-flows the following days without throwing away the parts the traveler liked.
  • Keep the whole trip inside one request so the model reasons about the shape, not one day at a time.
  • Own the evaluation set. Every prompt change is measured against real routes with known-good outputs before it ships.
  • Cut the cost per plan without cutting quality, which mostly means routing better rather than prompting differently.

What we are looking for

  • Five or more years building backend systems other people depend on.
  • You have shipped language models in production and have opinions about evaluation that came from being burned by bad outputs.
  • You write TypeScript comfortably, or you will within a fortnight of starting.
  • You care about the difference between a demo that impresses and a plan someone actually drives.

How hiring runs

A thirty-minute call with a founder, then a paid work session on a real problem from our backlog (three to four hours), then conversations with two people you would work alongside. Four steps, usually inside two weeks, and we tell you where you stand at every one.
